Transformation of a Former Convent in Ittre – 140m2
Once home to the Sisters of the Sacred Heart from the neighboring convent, this historic building had long been abandoned and required a complete renovation. Only the original façade and a few sections of flooring remained intact. We reimagined the entire structure to breathe new life into it, converting it into three separate residences along with a commercial space. An extension added extra volume and introduced new functional possibilities.
On the top floor, the apartment was expanded with the installation of a new floor. The original roof frame, which offered limited spatial potential, was replaced by a custom-designed metal structure. This striking triangular frame now features two prominent exposed steel beams, running without intermediate supports. These beams carry both the staircase and glass floor panels, infusing the space with natural light and a sense of airy openness.
To stay within budget without compromising on style, the kitchen and bathroom were outfitted using standard or reclaimed furnishings, which were then customized to suit the design vision. This approach allowed us to allocate more resources to key architectural features—such as the bespoke staircase and high-quality flooring—that enhance the character of the newly renovated space.
