A Conceptual Design for a 24-Unit Co-Living Space - 1000 m2
As part of its expansion, Colonies, a pioneer in the French co-living sector, enlisted the expertise of Maxime de Campenaere Studio to reimagine the interior design of its first building in the heart of Brussels.
The studio oversaw the spatial design, FF&E specifications, and renovation consultancy, crafting a space where functionality seamlessly meets aesthetics.
Designed as a vibrant and inviting living environment, this project harmonizes contemporary energy with retro influences. A bold color palette interacts with carefully curated decor pieces, infusing the space with a joyful and welcoming ambiance. Among the signature elements, custom metal structures rise above the kitchen islands, drawing inspiration from antique stained glass windows and paying homage to Brussels’ architectural heritage. Organic shapes connect walls and ceilings, creating an immersive visual continuity reminiscent of protective canopies that envelop the communal areas in a comforting atmosphere. This design fosters interaction, offering residents a space conducive to socializing and forging new friendships.
Sustainability and practicality were central to the material selection, ensuring durability suited to communal living. Retro-inspired tiled backsplashes complement glossy black lacquered doors and baseboards, transforming functional elements into aesthetic highlights. Every detail contributes to a strong visual identity, where modernity and heritage are thoughtfully intertwined. More than just an interior design project, this concept embodies a forward-thinking vision of co-living, redefining the art of shared living through design and conviviality.
