Renovation of an art gallery on Avenue Louise, Brussels – 300 m2
Nestled in the sought-after Place Stéphanie district, Galerie La Forest Divonne sought a renovation that would be discreet yet refined—one that would highlight the generous proportions of its new space. Rising to the challenge, Studio Maxime De Campenaere transformed a former shoe store into a light-filled, warmly inviting gallery.
To bring natural light into the heart of the building and create a sense of openness, the mezzanine was removed. The storage area at the back was fully reimagined, becoming an integral part of the visitor’s journey. This thoughtful reconfiguration offers an unbroken, fluid perspective from the street-facing façade all the way to the inner courtyard.
To assert the gallery’s identity while allowing the artwork to interact freely with its surroundings, galvanized steel accents were introduced alongside soft, curving forms. At the entrance, a galvanized steel door—paired with a sleek, minimalist handle—sets the tone. Two monumental steel steps support a majestic archway, subtly and elegantly framing the transition between the gallery’s first two rooms.
Existing skylights were redesigned and fitted with bespoke lighting elements to ensure a warm, consistent atmosphere—even after sunset. Large sliding doors, cleverly concealing technical areas, seamlessly blend into the interior architecture, extending the exhibition space.
Private areas take on a more cocooning ambiance, enhanced by plush carpeting and punctuated with stainless steel accents that lend a contemporary, polished touch.
