1930s House Renovation in Uccle, Brussels – 280 m2
A stunning 1930s Brussels home regains its full splendor through a renovation that honors its original character.
Designed for a family with a deep appreciation for period charm, the project by Maxime De Campenaere Studio masterfully blends authenticity with contemporary design. Every detail of the interior feels seamlessly rooted in the home’s heritage, as materials and volumes engage in a refined dialogue with the existing architecture. The living spaces are unified by a dark natural stone floor, lending depth and sophistication. This elegant foundation sets the stage for a walnut kitchen, enhanced by black and pale blue laminated plywood countertops—an understated nod to the era’s aesthetic. At the heart of the space, a central island is cleverly built around an existing column, creating an open, fluid layout where a blackened steel suspended fireplace commands attention from every angle.
Flowing naturally from the kitchen, the living room continues the narrative. A custom-built sofa hugs the walls, while a soft, organically shaped rug contrasts beautifully with the raw texture of the stone flooring. Above, wooden slatted panels line the ceiling, offering both a cozy ambiance and excellent acoustic comfort. Adjacent to the kitchen, a discreet home office is tucked away behind brass slats and glazed partitions, allowing natural light to gently permeate the space. In the bathroom, a small-format black and white tile mimics the pattern of a classic rug—a subtle tribute to the home’s soul. Bespoke carpentry is present throughout, from kitchen and bathroom to a carefully integrated dressing area that seamlessly combines elegance with functionality.
