Design and Renovation of a Single-Family Home in Brussels - 160m2
In a stripped-down townhouse where most original features had already been removed by the previous owner, Maxime de Campenaere Studio was given a blank canvas to completely rethink the layout and spatial flow.
Following an in-depth analysis of the client’s needs, we developed a bespoke interior design that meets an ambitious brief: four bedrooms, bright and airy living spaces, and seamless circulation throughout. As is common in Brussels, ground floors often suffer from limited natural light due to the narrow streets. To counter this, we reversed the traditional layout: the primary bedroom now occupies the ground floor, while the main living area has been moved to the first floor. This strategic choice maximizes daylight in the living spaces, offering a more generous, light-filled room for family life and entertaining. The upper floors, including the attic and second floor, are dedicated to the children. Three bedrooms and a shared shower room are cleverly arranged over two levels, each connected by custom-designed wooden ladders. This playful configuration makes full use of the available roof space, transforming previously unused areas into functional and inviting rooms.
The kitchen stands out as the heart of the home, finished in a soft eucalyptus lacquer paired with polished Marinace Verde granite, chosen for its distinctive texture and natural pattern. A custom island in white powder-coated metal and vintage glass adds a contemporary yet refined touch. The tiled backsplash subtly contrasts with the brushed gold fixtures, striking a balance between artisanal craftsmanship and modern design.
In the bathroom, zellige-style tiles in soft green and blush tones bring warmth and sophistication, creating an inviting atmosphere.
